“White, Discussion” is about the apocalypse. Ed’s lyrics describe this (”as the final sunset rolls behind the earth and the clock is finally dead”). It’s hard to imagine the apocalypse. But somehow, David Koresh and the Branch Davidians holed up in a compound just outside of Waco, Texas in February of 1993 (about the time the songs for “Copper” were written), were absolutely convinced that the federal government was advancing on their peaceful residence. Led by the Bureau of Alcohol Tobaco and Firearms under the direction of Janet Reno and the Clinton administration, Koresh managed to convince the Davidians that this was “the end” for them. The voice is not likely Koresh himself (though it the words could very well have been spoken by him), but the band deliberately chose that particular soundbite because it so easily summarizes the song’s intent. The voice is all at once urgent, paranoid and reolute, suggesting that prophetic religious fanaticism could be our undoing as it was for Koresh and his ill-advised followers.

I am interested in knowing who is the person that says the quote: “I warned you, I instructed you, I prepared you, I told you what to expect…Do yourslef some service, like the day so conquer,” that is played in between the lyrics. I have searched the internet, but could not find the person. If anyone knows can you please tell me?

Ashcroft stepping down is a good start, but I doubt Bush is really going to move left.

The real reason this bothers me is because this is actually what the American people want, and I just don’t understand how so much of this country can (in my opinion) be so wrong. The country is more conservative than I’d like to admit, and I just don’t know how I can deal with that.

Ummm, ever consider that Bush might move LEFT?! After all, he no longer has to worry about alienating the religious right (a necessary base to be re-elected). If reports are correct, the first casualty in the Bush cabinet will be the right-wing Ashcroft, signifying a move to the left no matter who gets put there (Giuliani?). Clearly, the left-wing doomsayers are too far left to recognize that the majority of voters are moderates. Demonizing the right-wing just riles them up, and makes the liberals look like radical whackos. Keep doing what you’re doing, and you’ll keep getting what you’re getting.

That sums it up perfectly. Amazing. (I always liked Live.) 4 more years. Of terror alerts. Of the patriot act. Of close minded unilateral foriegn policy. The american people have made their choice. and it makes really worried about the country I live in.
