I really should be doing a Vegas writeup of some sort, but that’s unlikely to actually happen. Every night I bowl, there’s a national strike pot going. $2 to get into the regular, $3 for the super. To win the regular, I need to throw a strike in the third, sixth, and ninth frames of all three games, and the tenth frame of the third game. For the super, I need that, plus the next two strikes to finish off the third game. Last night, I had the first NINE of them. Then I threw a perfect shot, and left a ten pin. Payout for this thing is usually over $1000. I think that pin felt worse than when I shot my 299 game. Dammit. (5)
…another choke? Actually, I thought it was a pretty good shot, just took off a little at the end. Eight strikes to start, then a little high for a 9 pin. Threw a X9/ in the 10th for a 269. That was the third game. In the first game, I went X/X/ and then finished with 8 in a row, for a 260. The middle game… well, as usual, was a 173. That adds up to a 702. Last night, I went 256-232-216 for a 704. That’s a 700 series three nights in a row, which is something I’m fairly sure I’ve never done before. One of these days, it’ll all come together and I’ll get that damn 300. (0)
Choked in the 10th frame again, for the second week in a row. This time, it was the second shot. Ten strikes, and then a 9/, for a 289. Followed that up with an awful 178, and then a 234 for a 701 series. (1)
297 tonight. 11 strikes and then I choked. Then a 224-173 (every shot in the pocket, couldn’t carry anything)-224, for a 918 series. Maybe next week I’ll get my 300… (1)

New Highs

Short, boring post, but my first in a week. I guess I just haven’t had anything to say. Still don’t, really.

X   8/X   X   X   X   9/X   X   XX9
204070100129149169199229258
9/9/X   X   X   9/63X   X   XX9
19396998118134143173203232
81X   X   X   X   X   X   X   X   9/X

7/X   X   9/X   72X   X   9/9/9
20496989108117146166185204
Series: 952   Average: 238.0

The first three games add up to 748, beating my previous high of 746 by two pins. My previous four game high series was 948, back when I shot my 299 game, so I beat that by three pins.

I warned you it was short and boring. That’s it.

I somehow cashed in a no-tap handicap bowling tournament tonight. In fact, I took third place out of 96 for $175 on my $20 buyin. Plus, there was free food, which was really the reason I was there. I shot a 278-275-256 for an 809, plus 78 pins of handicap for an 887. The third game was really probably my best, as all but one of the strikes were natural. The first two games I had a lot of 9 counts that turned into strikes because it was no-tap. I was not expecting to make any money, even after I knew my scores. I figured some low average bowlers would shoot big games. (3)

Good Weekend

For a weekend I had planned to do absolutely nothing, I got a whole lot done.

  • Had my mailbox bees taken care of. This was actually done on Friday
  • Bowled Saturday morning, the last week of the league. The league is normally a PBA shot, but since it was the last week, they put the house shot out. I shot a 688.
  • Took my college diploma frame in for repair.
  • Took delivery of a bookcase for my house.
  • Took a picture in to a photo place for a nice big print.
  • Played a round of disc golf, at Evergreen.
  • Played some poker at Chumash. Lost $200, but if not for a 4 outer on my last hand I’d have had $700 instead of being broke. AA vs KJ, board J329, or something like that. River? J. $20 in preflop, $100 on the flop, $185 on the turn.
  • Got a carwash.
  • Got a haircut.
  • Made a ton of progress on cleaning up my office at home, though you couldn’t tell by looking at it. It was mostly going through and shredding lots of old bills and other stuff that I have no need to keep anymore. Shredding is fun.
  • The Mets took 2 of 3 from the Dodgers. I had very little to do with this, but I did watch most of the first and last game, and some of the second.

It was the most relaxing weekend I’ve had in months.

Back on Track

I seem to be getting back to where I should be bowling. It’s about time, I’ve been in a bit of a slump for a while. Besides the 691 series the day after I got back from Reno, my scores haven’t been great. A few good games here and there, but very inconsistent and my series scores not where I want them to be.

Monday:

61X   X   X   X   X   8/X   8/XX8

X   X   X   9/X   X   X   X   9/8/8

72X   X   9/9/819-8/X   XXX

Series: 670   Average: 223.3

Last night:

8/X   X   X   9/9/9/9/7-X8/
20507999118137156173180200
X   X   X   X   62X   818/X   8/X

81X   X   X   X   X   X   7/X   X7/

X   X   X   X   X   81X   9/X   8/8
306090118137146166186206224
Series: 867   Average: 216.8

I think more important than the scores this week, though, is the fact I feel like I actually know what I’m doing again. That might just be the beer.

It’s my birthday today. I’m now 28. Tonight, I’m going out to dinner with my parents… which really isn’t any different than any other night they’re here, but will be nice.

Good to be Home

Reno was a ton of fun, but I bowled horribly. Three 3 game series, 525-537-481. That’s around a 172 average. Ick.

Bowled last night back at Zodos… 233-192-266 for a 691. It’s good to be back. 🙂

Tonight, more bowling. Tomorrow, I’m off to Austin to meet up with April, and then to Houston for some Mets baseball!

One hitter!

Not all that much to say lately. I got bored of online poker again pretty quickly, and when it’s boring, I lose money. I need to find a way to make it fun again. I need Badugi, dammit.

The Mets are having a horrible June. They were like 6-14 before finally winning 4 in a row, sweeping the A’s and taking one game against St. Louis. Two days ago, they tied the game up in the bottom of the 9th only to lose in 11 innings, and last night they won a rain-shortened 5.5 inning game (Glavine CG SHO! One hitter! Win 297). Somehow, they still have a 3.5 game lead in the NL East.

Last Saturday, I played disc golf for the first time. It’s a lot of fun, and a good way to get me outside. There’s a course pretty much right down the street from me, which is nice. I also played at Lake Casitas, which is about 45 minutes away, and a beautiful place. I’ll have to get back there sometime just to use my camera, not to play.

This weekend, I’m heading up to Reno for the USBC Nationals. It’s on a tough oil pattern, and I don’t expect to bowl particularly well, but it’ll be fun. The league I’m in on Saturday mornings has been using the same pattern, and I’m averaging around 175 in it, which is pretty much what I expected. I’m driving up there with a couple of friends, instead of taking the bus that broke down, like I did three years ago.

I guess that’s all I’ve got for now.
