My current a/v receiver is showing it’s age. I bought it in 2001, and it was probably introduced a year or two earlier than that. It’s a Pioneer VSX-D509s. It works great for what it does, but it’s now lacking features that I want. Component video switching, composite and s-video to component up-conversion, more than two optical audio inputs, and more. I think I’ve picked out what I’d like replace it: Denon AVR-2106. It’s not cheap, at $700 (or $500 refurb). I can afford it, but I think could probably get by just fine with my current setup and a Pelican HD Selector. It just seems like a lot of money to spend on something I don’t really need. On the other hand, I could then sell my recently purchased Polk XM Receiver, and get a much cheaper connect-and-play antenna instead, as the Denon receiver is XM ready. But then I have to deal with the hassle of actually selling it. One reason I sort of don’t want to buy it now is that I know I’ll want another one in a few years for DVI. Receivers with DVI are terribly expensive at the moment, but I could definitely see myself wanting one.
Dammit, I wish I could just make a decision.

A LITTLE OT but still audio. if you are EVER looking for a new subwoofer check out SVS subs.
The guys on the Home Theatre Forum were BEGGING me to buy one of these. They are a small mail order total bass geek company and make amazing subs.

for $400 I can feel things I can’t hear – no need for bass shakers on the couch. Not a boomer like most subs, you feel it in your chest without hearing it.
BUT – your talking A/V reciever – get it. S Video is pretty nice (but the cord is very expensive).
You deserve it.
You should talk to Glasstrack. He could probably give you some advice on home theater. At the very least y’all could geek out.
