San Jose Sharks at Colorado Avalanche, 10/1/09

After the afternoon Rockies game, I walked from Coors Field to the Pepsi Center. It was about a half hour walk, with a stop at Fedex Office to print my ticket for the game. I got there a while before they opened the doors.

It was the Avalanche season opener, and before the game they retired Joe Sakic’s jersey and number.

The Avalanche jumped out to an early lead, and ended up winning 5-2. I don’t go to too many hockey games, and it was fun being there. I need to get to some more.

The first recorded use of the word “hockey” is found in the text of a royal proclamation issued by Edward III of England in 1363 banning certain types of sports and games. Most evidence of hockey-like games during the Middle Ages is found in legislation concerning sports and games. Similar to Edward’s proclamation was the Galway Statute enacted in Ireland in 1527, which banned certain types of ball games, including hockey.-.:..
